My Next Campaign

This is the where I'm going to establish the rules and background for my next campaign set in the world of Eberron.

Hopefully I'll have many takers for this game as I intend to use my great stack of books to personalize the game and take the intrepid adventurer's into a world of Pulp Noir Adventure where the threat of war looms on fatigued shoulders, dark beings seek power, and dragons try to figure out their prophecy.

Campaign Background

The campaign begins in Sharn, the City of Towers. Where the PCs are members of the famous (some would call infamous) Morgrave University. For those who don't know anything about Morgrave. It is a place the studies the mysterious continent of Xen'drik which lies to the south of the main continent of Khorvaire.

As the campaign begins the characters will begin as associates of the university in some way. This can be of several different roles, but none of which can be main faculty or administrater.

Learning from Morgrave often deals with more than just classroom learning as it's main goal is to produce people capable of discovering more ancient secrets and providing a place for them to bring those discoveries back to.

Student: You are attending the university to learn about various histories and artifacts of Eberron.

Contributor: This is a kinder name for those who deal in found artifacts from all over the world. Keep in mind that not all found items are found in ancient places. Students often earn this title once they graduate from the university.

Trainer: Not faculty but a student of higher ranking often charged with dealing with student issues on a personal basis.

From here I plan to try and keep the game open ended, and build the story around the party. They will be offered jobs by the university or may come across rumors that strike them as curious. From this their encounters will build the story.

Character Setup

Depending on who joins, I may allow previous characters to be modified and used in this campaign. But for those who want to make new characters use the rules that follow.

Attributes: use 78 point buy starting from 0 buying at 1 for 1. Minimum number is 3 in any one ability, Maximum is 18. This is before racial modifiers. This means all ability start at 13 is divided evenly.

Races: All the races from the PHB, ECS (Eberron Campaign Setting), with noted details from the Races of Eberron Source Books, and cultural acknowledgements in the 5 Nations Source book. (If you do not have these books, worry not I can provide the details)

Classes: All core classes are allowed from all WotC books.
Prestige classes will be largely cut back to those provided by the ECS, including the ones found in the source book. Other PrCs will be allowed on a case by case basis. The PCs may only be in one PrC at a time, and cannot take levels in another PrC until they complete the first...this will reduce min/maxing at higher levels. They may take levels in core classes without a problem.

All newly created characters will start at 3rd level.

Equipment: Characters start with enough money for starting at higher levels found in the DMG (page pending).
They also get the following for free.
Identification Papers, Morgrave Entrence Papers, and Travel Papers.

Characters of a dragonmarked house who have the Favored in House feat starts with a signet ring with the house crest on it.

Background Requirements:
Reason for being enrolled at Morgrave, and Reason why you want to an adventurer...since that is all Morgrave ever trains.

People of Eberron

The core story of the Eberron can be described as centered on the continent of Khorvaire and with a lot of influence coming from across the seas.

As such some races are available from those distant lands, but most PC races come from Khorvaire. Also one needs to note that the races of Eberron get most of their distinction based on their homeland as opposed to what race they are. (For example: A Khorvaire elf, Valenar Elf, and a Aereni Elf all are very different in out look, with only a few differences weapon proficiencies.) As such I will provide a brief describtion of the races based on their region and association with the dragonmarked houses.

The following races are...

Human: Five Nations (Aundair, Breland, Cyre (Mournlands), , Karnaath, Thrane), Young Nations (Eldeen Reaches, Lhazaar Principalities, Q'barra, Shadow Marsh), Xen'drik (Storm Reach).

Dwarf: Human Nations above, Mror Hold.
Elf: Khorvaire (Five Nations), Valenar, Aerenal

Gnome: Five Nations, Zilargo

Half-Elf: Khorvaire, Valenar, Aerenal

Half-Orc: Eldeen Reach, Shadow Marsh, Droam

Halfling: Khorvaire, Telanta Plains

Hobgoblins: Drugar, Breland, Droam

Kalashtar: Khorvaire (Five Nations), Sarlona

Shifter: Khorvaire (Young Nations)

Warforged: Khorvaire (Five Nations)
